FLAME University is organizing a conference on "Sustainable Finance: An Indic Context'' on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at FLAME University (VKS003).
The objective of the conference is to initiate a discussion on how India is well-placed to provide global, intellectual, and educational leadership through its dharmic wisdom and lived history, traditions, and experience of sustainable finance.
Contemporary scholars are fierce critics of the current obsession with ESG and CSR within the global financial sector. They have been called 'hypocritical spin machines', which sidestep real and sustainable reforms in finance. Even the theme of ‘good’ and sustainable leadership in finance is absent from debate and discussion.
This much-awaited conference will address these pain points and showcase Professor Atul K. Shah’s pioneering research, which has been published in a new book called "Inclusive and Sustainable Finance - Leadership, Ethics and Culture". The book highlights how some Indian business leaders have rare indigenous wisdom and provide exemplary guidance to deal with the challenges of sustainable finance in the modern world. The discussions will focus on these exemplary examples of sustainable finance and will serve as a unique opportunity to recharge and renew science and education in accounting and finance to deal with our existential crises.
The conference will witness eminent panelists from the financial sector.

Professor Atul K. Shah
Professor Atul K. Shah has a PhD from London School of Economics (LSE) and has published several books and research papers on Accounting and Finance. He presently teaches at City, University of London and has global experience of lecturing and broadcasting, including several BBC programs and profiles in The Guardian and The Financial Times. His latest book, "Inclusive and Sustainable Finance - Leadership, Ethics and Culture", published by Routledge, will be profiled by the BBC World Service and has already been widely covered in the media. In January 2023, Professor Shah is touring India to demonstrate the relevance of dharmic wisdom to modern challenges in finance.
