A Talk by Dr. Hyesu Park: Narrating Other Minds: Alterity and Empathy in Post-1945 Asian American Literature
In this talk, Dr. Park will explore Asian American authors’ innovative uses of the stereotypes about 'inscrutable' Asian American minds by using the tools offered by rhetorical and cognitive narratology as well as research in the cognitive and neurosciences. Dr. Park will also talk about the joy and perils of her attempt to bring together narrative theory and AsianAmerican literature in her scholarship.
Hyesu Park was born in Seoul, South Korea and moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue graduate studies in English. She received her PhD in English from Ohio State University in 2014 and is currently Assistant Professor of English at Bellevue College, Washington, US.
