The FLAME Centre for Case Development is pleased to announce a Case Writing Workshop during January 16-17, 2020 at FLAME University, Lavale, Pune with the focus of enabling the participant to write and present an Indian case.
The case method of teaching has gained popularity in several management and professional disciplines and has become an integral part of the pedagogy. Many colleges draw upon cases written by international authors on international or Indian scenarios. It is time we develop cases by Indian authors on Indian scenarios.
The FLAME Centre for Case Development (FCCD) intends to promote case writing by Indian authors across various disciplines by providing necessary encouragement and support to the teaching fraternity. A case writing workshop is being organized in January 2020 which will be followed by a case teaching workshop and a case conference with publication support.
FLAME University has been established as a state private university vide the FLAME University Act 2014 (Maharashtra Act No. II of 2015) of the Government of Maharashtra. FLAME University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f), and degrees awarded by the University are recognized under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956.
FLAME University is the pioneer of Liberal Education in India. The objective is to go beyond the known and familiar structured and narrowly encapsulated forms of knowledge. The aim is to provide students a learning experience that would excite and enthuse them. The primary objective is to promote case writing skills among the teaching fraternity with a hands-on experience of developing a case and to:
Address some case writing myths
Help to recognize case situations
Provide insights on structuring a case
Formulate interesting learning possibilities
Create a case rhetoric
Capture the content and text of a case
Provide insights on structuring the teaching note
Integrate the case and the teaching note
The programme will be conducted in workshop mode wherein the emphasis is on participation, discussion, reflection, creation and application. The sessions will require the participants to identify a case and work on it using secondary sources of information. They will then be encouraged to continue with the work after the programme and complete it using primary/secondary data. The work can be used as a teaching case in their course and for presentation at the FLAME Case Conference proposed in mid-2020.
The programme is targeted for:

research scholars who would like to understand the process of writing a case and its teaching note
working professionals/entrepreneurs who would like a case written for their own organization
At the end of the programme, the participant will:
Understand how to go about planning to write a case
Understand the process of writing a case and its teaching note
Structure a case for teaching a particular concept
Have a case to work on
Be able to identify other cases to work on
Be motivated to author a case
Prof. Abhishek is a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a graduate of the Institute of Rural Management, Anand. He has authored and published several cases including those on PayTM, BloombergQuint, V-Xpress, BigBasket, Patanjali Ayurved, redBus, Samsung Electronics, Villgro Innovation, SpiceJet and SEWA. The cases have been published with IIM Ahmedabad, Ivey Publishing and The Case Centre among others. His teaching experience includes stints with the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad, Amritsar and Rohtak), Entrepreneurship Development Institute, Institute of Rural Management, Aalto University (Finland) and the Institute of Management Technology (Dubai and Ghaziabad) in the domains of marketing communications, digital marketing and e-commerce, rural marketing, promotion planning and retail consumer behaviour. He is on the Boards of Research Institute for Compassionate Economics (RICE) and Kaushalya Foundation.
Prof. Amarpreet Singh is a graduate of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences Bombay and has done post-doctoral work with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. He has authored and published several cases including those on V-Xpress, Shraddanjali.com, redBus, The Akal Academies, Drivers420.com and ArthaKranti. The cases have been published with IIM Ahmedabad, Ivey Publishing and Emerald among others. His teaching experience includes stints with Entrepreneurship Development Institute, NMIMS, the Bombay Stock Exchange and FLAME University in the domains of strategic management, corporate entrepreneurship and family managed business. He is on the Board of Emerald’s Emerging Markets Case Studies Journal and a Reviewer with The Case Centre.
Prof. Bharat Damani is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. His research work on nurturing social enterprises and entrepreneurship used the case study approach. He has been associated with manufacturing start-ups for more than 30 years. His teaching experience includes stints with IIT Bombay, Tata Institute of Social Sciences Bombay, Sydenham Institute of Management and FLAME University in the domains of finance, strategic management, business plan development and social entrepreneurship.
The workshop will be conducted from 16th January 2020 9.00 am to 17th January 2020 2.00 pm and will include an assignment for the evening of 16th January 2020.
