Ideals or Idiosyncratic deals are the informal and ad-hoc negotiations that some employees may have with their employer over the course of employment based on special conditions specific to them. Ideals may pertain to task responsibilities, location and schedule of work, financial arrangements and developmental opportunities. Employees may bargain for ideals at the time of recruitment, during the course of employment, or at the stage of leaving the organization. Existing literature on ideals indicates the specific antecedents and consequences of different types of ideals in organizations. However, it does not provide a holistic understanding of the role of ideals in enhancing employee performance. The objective of our study is to address this gap by exploring the relation between individual behavioral system, success with ideals and work engagement.
