Dr. Harinath Kasiganesan
Presentation topic : Organic Farming for the future of India and its relevance to COVID-19 crisis
Dr. Harinath is an Ex DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) scientist, former Senior Research Faculty at Medical University of South Carolina, USA. Presently he is Founder Director of Akash Institute of Agricultural Medicine, Chennai. He owns many patents and publications to his credit in the field of cardiology. As per his promise he had given to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, he returned to India with a Nobel vision of curing India’s health problems through its roots.
He is an Award winning Best Organic Farming Expert in India and Worldwide. His current research focused on scientific understanding of traditional organic farming, using indigenous/forgotten seed varieties of Tamilnadu. Developing simple methods for farmers to convert agricultural waste in to nutrition rich organic fertilizer, plant growth promoters and pesticides along with phytomedicines. He is also formulating an academic curriculum to teach traditional organic cultivation and agricultural medicine.
After several years of hard research and careful observations he discovered an innovative, ancient organic method to create a novel formula called “MORINGA BULLET” a poly herbal health supplement which contains 11 different herbs and spices without any artificial chemicals and preservatives.
Dr. Manju Menon
Presentation topic : India’s post-covid economic recovery, mining and environment regulations
Dr. Manju Menon is a Senior Fellow at Centre of Policy Research and a Senior Advisor at Environment Justice Program, Namati. She has engaged with India’s environmental laws and policies for over two decades.
Her ongoing research projects examine the role of governments, courts and citizens in environmental law making and enforcement. She co-designs and supports community based projects that aim to use environment, pollution, land and forest laws to protect socio-ecological commons, public health and community livelihoods. She contributes to the fields of enviro-legal and policy practice and research through discussion forums and project collaborations with activists, students, law practitioners and administrative institutions. Manju has published on these topics widely. She has authored several book chapters, academic papers and articles in the media. Manju has published several key reports on the state of India’s Environment Impact Assessment and environmental compliance, coastal regulation, forest governance and land use change.
She is a member of the UTS Climate Justice Research Centre and of Kalpavriksh, an environment research group.
Dr. Arun Dixit
Presentation topic : Ecology and Society: Applying interdisciplinary understanding
Dr Arun Mani Dixit is Senior Program Associate at Centre for Environment and Social Concerns, Ahmedabad. He has more than 30 years of experience in interdisciplinary research, management and conservation of biodiversity in different geographies of the country. He is a consultant on issues related to forestry, ecology, ecosystem services, biodiversity conservation and associated livelihoods. He is a nominated member of Gujarat Biodiversity Board. Since last 7 years. He is also one of the members in Protected Area Management Effectiveness Evaluation (MEE) committee, constituted by MoEF-CC. He is a nominated member of IUCN’s World Commission on Protected Area (WCPA). He is also working with The World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, FAO and JICA in their different biodiversity conservation and associated livelihood focus projects in different parts of country and specifically focus on forest, grasslands, wetlands, and coral reef ecosystems.
