In collaboration with the Alumni Relations Office, the Department of Humanities and Languages is organizing an illuminating interactive session with our alumna, Ms. Anahita Sachdev. This is part of our monthly Alumni Interaction Series.
In the session, she will share insights into her academic and professional experiences, including her time at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism and her career at BBC News. The session will provide valuable guidance on higher studies, career opportunities in LCS, and the media industry. Students will also have the opportunity to ask her questions about navigating the transition from academics to a successful career in journalism and digital media.
Speaker Bio:
Anahita Sachdev is an accomplished journalist, video producer, and media professional with a distinguished academic and professional background. She earned her Bachelor of Arts as a Literary and Cultural Studies major with a minor in Film and Television from FLAME (2014-2018), where she was awarded the Gold Medal for Extraordinary All-Round Performance and the Silver Medal for Outstanding Scholastic Performance. She graduated with the highest rank in her specialization and actively served as the chairperson of the FirstCut International Student Film Festival.
She further pursued a Master of Science in Journalism with Honours from Columbia University-Graduate School of Journalism. Currently, she serves as a Senior Digital Producer at BBC News in New Delhi, after working as a video journalist in Washington, D.C., under BBC North America's prestigious video fellowship.
Anahita has won numerous accolades, including the Laadli Media Award for Best Issue-Based Program (2022) for her work on "In Perspective," a video series covering gender, caste, and LGBTQ+ issues, for which she co-produced and edited over 300 videos. She also co-produced "In Perspective," which was nominated for the Webby Awards (2021) in the Best Social Videos category.
Her achievements extend beyond journalism-she was the second-best speaker in the 'English as a Second Language' category at the World Public Speaking Championship (2013) in Durban, South Africa. With a strong foundation in media, public speaking, and digital storytelling, Anahita continues to shape impactful narratives on global platforms.
