FirstCut is an annual international film festival organised by the students of FLAME University. Since the conception of the festival, the organising committees have worked to ensure that it is a platform for budding filmmakers all across the world to showcase their films. Over the years, the festival has evolved from just a platform to view films, to an opportunity for all delegates to engage in discussions about various aspects of cinema. These discussions explore the politics, sociology and culture of cinema, intersecting with the multidisciplinary philosophy of FLAME University. In previous years we have had Sriram Raghavan, Rasika Dugal, Faraz Ansari, Reema Sengupta and many others join us for both, panel discussions as well as to judge films across categories.
Even though the festival has grown over the years, the primary philosophy of the festival has remained the same- to recognise the efforts of young filmmakers across the world- and FirstCut 2021 aims to do no different. As registrations for the edition have closed for the year, we have received more than 350 submissions across the four categories. The three-day festival is scheduled to take place on 12, 13 and 14th of February this year on our YouTube channel.
FirstCut also has its own podcast, the Beanbag Archives. The BeanBag Archives are a casting call for people in film to come over and pour in to share their thoughts, experiences and reflections and will be shared on Spotify. Always being such a comfortable space for everyone to express themselves be it as a part of the organising committee, as delegates or as filmmakers, FirstCut has been and will continue to be a huge part of the FLAME experience. Despite the unprecedented circumstances this year, the festival will continue to bring the community together through their love for cinema.
