The Centre for Experimental Social Sciences (CESS) Nuffield β FLAME University had the pleasure to welcome Professor Raymond Duch, Official Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, on 25 January 2017. Professor Duch is also the director of the Nuffield Centre for Experimental Social Sciences and his research focuses on responsibility attribution, incorporating elements of theory, experiments and analysis of public opinion. More recently, he has turned to experiments to identify the information shortcuts that individuals deploy for attributing responsibility for collective decision making.
Professor Duch presented his work to the FLAME community through a public lecture titled βIs Cheating a National Pastime?: Evidence from tax compliance experiments in Russia, Chile, and Britain.β During the lecture, Professor Duch presented his ongoing work on whether high ability individuals are more likely to cheat than their low ability counterparts in tax paying behavior. After presenting his research, Professor Duch exchanged ideas with the FLAME community about the potential policy implications of his work and the possibility of running similar tax-related experiments in India.
