Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri is a B.Tech (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur and a Fellow of IIM-Ahmedabad with a specialization in Business Policy.
He taught at IIM-A from March 1981 till November 2002.
From May 2000 till December 2001, he was the Dean of the Vinod Gupta School of Management, IIT Kharagpur, and was the Director of IIM Calcutta, for two consecutive terms from November 2002 till April 2013. From May 2013 till April 2015, he served as the Founding Director of the School of Management & Entrepreneurship at the Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida. During his tenure at IIMC, he was instrumental in bringing about a major transformation involving architecting a new vision and mission, launch of new and innovative academic programs, significant growth in the number of students, faculty, physical infrastructure and executive education. In his capacity as Director at IIM Calcutta, he was also the Mentor Director of IIM, Ranchi. Prof. Chaudhuri has been a Senior Fulbright Fellow at U. C. Berkeley, USA.; Visiting Scholar at the Twente University of Technology, Enschede, Netherlands; Visiting Professor of Strategic Management in the College of Business and Administration, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois, USA (1989-1991); and Visiting Professor at ESCP, Paris, France. He was the President of the Association of Indian Management Schools (AIMS) in 2006 and has been a member of the Executive Board of the Association of Management Development Institutions in South Asia (AMDISA) and has been a member of the boards of several reputed business organisations and institutions like XIM, Bhubaneswar, ASCI, Hyderabad, WBUT, Kolkata.
Currently, Prof. Chaudhuri sits on the boards of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and MDI Gurgaon. He has also been the Visitor’s Nominee to several universities like Manipur University (a Central University), Imphal; IIT Kanpur, Tezpur University, Tezpur (a Central University), Aligarh Muslim University, and served on the interview panels for faculty recruitment at IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Lucknow, IIM Kozhikode, etc. In 2009, he received MIT-MAEER’S Bharat Asmita Acharya Shreshtha Award (Best Teacher in Management) from the Vice-President of India and in 2012 he received the Ravi J Mathai National Fellowship Award from AIMS.
