Register on the FLAME University website

Please register on the FLAME University website (apply.flame.edu.in) to create your user account. You will get an auto generated e-mail with your log in information. Use this log in information to apply to FLAME.

Apply to FLAME University

FLAME University has an online application process. You are required to provide information such as your personal contact details, educational qualifications, achievements/ extracurricular activities and statement of purpose, national/international level tests scores if any.

International/National Level entrance test scores (GRE/JAM(Economics)) are accepted by FLAME University for admission to the MSc Economics program. If the applicant does not have this score, they can opt for PG FEAT. If the applicant opts for it, we will communicate the details of the test such as time, date and other relevant instructions to appear for the online test via email.

You also need to provide your admission cycle preference for PG FEAT (if applicable), Essay and Online Personal Interview.

Additionally, you need to upload your recent passport size photograph (.JPG or .PNG format, file size less than 5 MB) and scanned copies (self-attested) of the below-mentioned documents in support of your application. Please upload all the requisite documents on the application portal in the ‘Document Upload’ section. You can upload the documents even after you have completed the application.

The required documents to be uploaded on the FLAME University application portal are:

  • Copy of 10th standard (or equivalent) mark sheet, issued by the respective board
  • Copy of 10th standard (or equivalent) passing certificate
  • Copy of 12th standard (or equivalent) mark sheet, issued by the respective board
  • Copy of 12th standard (or equivalent) passing certificate
  • Copy of Graduation mark sheets (all years/ semesters/ trimesters), if received
  • Copy of Graduation degree certificate, if received
  • Copies of Post-graduation degree mark sheets (all years/ semesters/ trimesters) and degree certificate, if any
  • Copies of any other educational qualification mark sheet and certificate, if any
  • Copy of International/national level entrance test scorecard (GRE/JAM), if available
  • Copies of all other certificates (eg. work experience), transcripts, and testimonials (optional, but these documents may have relevance in assessing your candidature)

Please complete all mandatory details carefully and accurately.

You need not complete the application form in one sitting. You can save and return to the application form as many times as required, but before making the payment of application fee.

Payment of application fee

Your application will be considered incomplete till an application fee of INR 2,000 is paid by you. The application fee can be paid through either of the following modes:

  • Online
    Debit Card, Credit Card (All major cards, except American Express), Netbanking, Wallet, UPI, etc.
  • Demand Draft (DD)
    Please make a DD in favour of "FLAME University", payable at Pune. In the application form, you can mention the DD details (such as the DD number, Bank, and Date). After submission of the application, please send the DD (with your name, program, and application number mentioned on the backside of DD) to FLAME University’s mailing address (Foundation for Liberal And Management Education, 401, Phoenix Commercial Complex, Bund Garden, Opp. Residency Club, Pune - 411001, Maharashtra, India).
  • Purchase of scratch card from counsellors
    You may directly pay the application fee by cash to any of the FLAME University’s admission counsellors by purchasing a scratch card voucher. Please fill the number mentioned on the scratch card in the application form to proceed for submission.

Note: Application fee is non-refundable.

Completing the application

Once you have made the payment, you can complete the application with a statement of purpose (SOP) and uploading your photo. You will receive a confirmation e-mail with your application number (i.e. MSC20250XXXXX). You will receive a PDF copy of your completed application form by email, on your registered email id. Well before the selection process, you will receive an email with details regarding date, time and other instructions with respect to the PG FEAT (if applicable), Essay and Online Personal Interview.

In the weeks subsequent to your application completion, we will send you important information regarding your FLAME application status. Please check your registered e-mail account regularly, and keep visiting our application portal.

Essay and Online Online Personal Interview (PI)

After you submit your application, FLAME University will conduct a preliminary screening to shortlist candidates for Essay and Online Personal Interview (PI). If you are shortlisted, you will be intimated about the date, time and other relevant details of the Essay and Online Personal Interview.

FLAME University's admission panel will conduct the Online Personal Interview (PI). The Essay and PI will be conducted online.

A] Essay: During the online assessment, you will be required to complete an essay, the topic of which will be provided on the spot. You are required to type your response in ~200-250 words and submit within 30 minutes.
B] Online Personal Interview: FLAME University's admission panel of experts will conduct the PI.

To appear for the online selection process, keep identification proof (Aadhaar, Passport, Driving License or PAN Card) ready for verification. This will serve as an identity proof for you to attend FLAME University’s online admission process. Only originals shall be treated as valid proof of identity. You are required to keep the same handy during the entire online admission process. Please ensure that you start the online admission process at your scheduled time.

PG FEAT (FLAME Entrance Aptitude Test)

PG FEAT (FLAME Entrance Aptitude Test) is an online examination conducted by FLAME University for admission to its MSc in Economics program.

If students have International/National Level entrance test scores (GRE/JAM(Economics)) then PG PEAT is optional. However, if the applicant feels that the GRE/JAM entrance exam score does not fully reflect his/her academic credentials or potential he/she may opt for PG FEAT.

PG FEAT is an online examination (MCQ based) divided in 2 sections with 120 minutes duration:

  • Section 1: 90 minutes
    • Microecomics & Macroeconomics (30 Questions)
    • Mathematics & Statistics (21 Questions)
  • Section 2: 30 Minutes
    • Critical Thinking (10 Questions)
    • Verbal Ability (30 Questions)

If you opt for PG FEAT, we will send you an email including details such as date, time and other relevant instructions to appear for the online test.

SYLLABUS for PG-FEAT

Verbal Ability section will include questions on vocabulary, grammar, sentence correction, composition, comprehension etc.

Syllabus for Economics

Microeconomics

  • Consumer theory: Preference, utility and representation theorem, budget constraint, choice, demand (ordinary and compensated), choice under risk and uncertainty, revealed preference axioms
  • Production, costs with perfectly competitive markets: Technology, isoquants, production with one and more variable inputs, returns to scale, short run and long run costs, cost curves in the short run and long run, perfect competition in markets
  • General equilibrium and welfare: Equilibrium and efficiency under pure exchange and production, welfare economics, theorems of welfare economics
  • Market structure: Monopoly, pricing with market power, price discrimination (first, second and third), monopolistic competition and oligopoly
  • Game theory: Strategic form games, Nash equilibrium, mixed extension and mixed strategy Nash equilibrium, iterated elimination of dominated strategies, examples: Cournot, Bertrand duopolies, Prisoner’s dilemma.
  • Public goods and market failure: Externalities, public goods and markets with asymmetric information (adverse selection and moral hazard),

Macroeconomics

  • National Income Accounting: Structure, key concepts, measurements, and circular flow of income - for closed and open economy, money, fiscal and foreign sector variables - concepts and measurements
  • Behavioural and Technological Functions - Consumption functions - absolute income hypothesis, life-cycle and permanent income hypothesis, investment functions- Keynesian, money demand and supply functions, production function
  • Business Cycles and Economic Models: Business cycles-facts and features, the Classical model of the business cycle. the Keynesian model of the business cycle, simple Keynesian cross model of income and employment determination and the multiplier (in a closed economy), IS-LM Model, Hicks’ IS-LM synthesis, role of monetary and fiscal policy
  • Inflation and Unemployment: Inflation - theories, measurement, causes, and effects, Unemployment -types, measurement, causes, and effects

Statistics for Economics

  • Probability theory, Sample spaces and events, Axioms of probability and their properties, conditional probability and Bayes’ rule, independent events
  • Random variables and probability distributions, probability distributions, expected values and functions of random variables, properties of commonly used discrete and continuous distributions
  • Random sampling, Density and distribution functions for jointly distributed random variables, computing expected values of jointly distributed random variables, covariance and correlation coefficients
  • Point and interval estimation, estimation of population parameters using methods of moments and maximum likelihood procedures, properties of estimators, confidence intervals
  • Hypothesis testing, distributions of test statistics, testing hypotheses related to population parameters, Type I and Type II errors, the power of a test, tests for comparing parameters from two samples

Mathematics for Economics

  • Preliminaries and Functions of one real variable: a. Set theory and number theory, Graphs, elementary types of functions: quadratic, polynomial, power, exponential, logarithmic, sequences and series: convergence, algebraic properties and applications, b. Continuous functions: characterisations, properties with respect to various operations and applications, c. Differentiable functions: characterisations, properties with respect to various operations and applications, d. Second and higher order derivatives: properties and applications
  • Single-variable optimization: Geometric properties of functions: convex functions, their characterisations and applications, local and global optima: geometric and calculus-based characterisations, and applications.
  • Linear algebra: Vector spaces - algebraic and geometric properties, scalar products, norms, orthogonality, linear transformations, systems of linear equations
  • Functions of several real variables: Geometric representations - graphs and level curves, differentiable functions: characterisations, properties with respect to various operations and applications, second order derivatives: properties and applications, the implicit function theorem, and application to comparative statics problems, homogeneous and homothetic functions: characterisations and applications.
  • Multivariate optimization: Convex sets, geometric properties of functions: convex functions, their characterisations, properties and applications, further geometric properties of functions: quasi-convex functions, their characterisations, properties and applications, unconstrained optimisation: geometric characterisations, characterisations using calculus and applications, constrained optimisation with equality constraints: geometric characterisations, Lagrange characterisation using calculus and applications, properties of value function: envelope theorem and applications
  • Integration, differential equations, and difference equations: - Definite integrals, indefinite integrals and economic applications, first order difference equations, equilibrium and its stability, first order differential equations, phase diagrams and stability

Selection and declaration of result

FLAME University shall evaluate your candidature based on different selection criteria. The admission results would be announced on the application portal as per the admission schedule. If you are selected, you will receive a copy of your offer letter by email.

Acceptance of the offer

Selected candidates need to accept their admissions offer within the validity period. Required information will be detailed in your admission offer letter. You need to:

  • Confirm the offer of admission, login to the FLAME application portal, select ‘Accept Admission Offer’, and
  • Pay the admission deposit fees within the deadline mentioned in the offer letter

Admission deposit fees can be paid through the following modes:

  • Net Banking
  • Demand Draft (DD)
    Please make a DD in favour of "FLAME University", payable at Pune. In the acceptance form, you can mention the DD details (such as the DD number, Bank, and Date).   • Strictly No Cash payments/direct cash deposit in the FLAME University account.

Enrolment to FLAME University

We will communicate all the necessary information about your joining such as reporting date and time, academic calendar, housing details, documents to be submitted during enrolment, items to bring to campus, and induction schedule before the commencement of academic program.

Re-application

FLAME encourages those applicants who have been rejected/ wait-listed in first instance to re-apply, where you may add some of the factors you might have missed in your previous application. Your application will be treated and assessed as a fresh application. You will have to pay the application fee again during re-application. You will be allowed to re-apply only once. Kindly note, while re-applying please don’t use the email id which is already registered on the FLAME University application portal.

Re-application is not permitted if your first application was rejected on the basis of your credentials being misrepresented.

Misrepresentation of information

FLAME University will NOT tolerate any instance of falsification of information. Your admission shall immediately stand cancelled and fees forfeited, in case it is discovered at any stage that any of the information submitted by you was falsified. We will verify your original certificates or mark sheets supporting your application at the time of enrolment.

Withdrawal of admission and fee refund

The refund policy for the incoming class of 2025 will be updated soon.
