Conference Themes

Transitions: This covers shifts in political structure, societal organization, or technology across history and in the present. Possible proposals could include those focussing on the study of frameworks to theorize such changes in socio-political, economic, or intellectual history as well as ways of thinking about the impact of such shifts. Philosophical studies of time and change would also be part of this

Sustainability: This is oriented towards contemporary and past approaches to environmental sustainability as well as cultural sustainability, and could include projects from a variety of disciplines, including (but not limited to) facilitation of sustainable practices (through technology or policy), philosophical approaches, questions which try to balance sustainability with other kinds of concerns, international relations.

Identities: This could encompass a variety of ways to approach notions of self. These would range from the different ways in which identities are constructed and the limits of the self to various approaches in consciousness studies and examinations of the notion of self (or indeed, non-self) in intellectual traditions other than the ones we normally operate in.

Networks: This theme, broadly conceived, would include the use of the idea in technology, social sciences, intellectual history, and philosophy.
